The Merchant Payment Service difference is our focus on customer service with integrity. Service can sometimes get buried in a sales pitch. As a company we are dedicated to having quality service centered on integrity.

“So What Makes Us a Company of Integrity?’

Consultants vs. Salespeople

As a company we are focused on building relationships with our clients by following our value system of service with integrity. This means that we are not salespeople trying to drive our bottom line but rather making sure that our solutions are right for you. Whether you are a full service organization or building your business out of your home we want to make sure that you are getting the best deal for your type of business. Our success is built by the success you experience and we believe that success is found in partnering with you. For this reason we consult with you to make sure you are given the best solution possible. As consultants our focus is on what is best for your company and its goals, we see success when you see success.

Month-to-Month Agreements

All too often in the merchant service industry we talk with businesses often hear that they want to change service providers but are unable to because they are locked into a contract. These contracts leave you trying to change providers with no real choice. Cancelation fees can cost hundreds of dollars; because of this we believe in fighting for your business. Instead of long contracts we have month to month agreements, this gives you the freedom and flexibility to choose the company that provides you with the best service. We want you to do business with us because you trust us, and stay with us because we serve you with integrity.

One of the security features built into credit cards is a three-digit security code located on the back of your card. Merchants use this code to ensure the card is actually in your hands when you make a purchase online or over the phone. This security code is exactly what scammers are after in this latest scam.

How the Scam Works
A scammer calls you claiming to be from your credit card company’s security or fraud department. The caller, who has already obtained your credit card number and address from another document such as an old account statement, purchase receipt, etc., will tell you that your card has been flagged for unusual activity and recite your address, asking you to verify that it is correct so a statement can be sent showing your account has been credited for any fraudulent activity.

Don’t Fall for the Next Move
The caller will then tell you he/she needs to verify the card hasn’t been stolen by making sure it is in your possession. How do they want you to prove you have it? By providing your three-digit security number – their golden nugget. DO NOT PROVIDE THIS CODE! Once the scammer has this code, along with your address that you verified earlier, they can begin making fraudulent purchases with your card.

Recently, I spoke to a group of college students at Wright State University about integrity in the business world. I shared my real-life experiences with them, and explained how taking the high road, the honest road, the road to integrity, has paid off. I explained to them that it’s not always easy. Many times, the easy thing to do would be the wrong, dishonest path. But that’s not how I run this business, and it’s not how we do things here at Merchant Payment Services.

I explained to the students that integrity is not simply a pattern of behavior. It’s part of who we are as people, as individuals. I firmly believe that genuine integrity enables a company to produce exceptional products, provide better services, build better teams and, ultimately, have a stronger foundation.

When I closed, I challenged the students to examine their motives, to define their purpose in business beyond just making a profit. I told them to think about what they are gifted to do, what they love to do and to seek avenues in business that allow them to fulfill those talents and passions.

I was invited to speak to these students because Merchant Payment Services was named the 2011 recipient of the Better Business Bureau’s Eclipse Integrity Award. We were a finalist the previous three years, and are thankful to have been recognized for our commitment to integrity.

Historically, companies that process transactions, including credit cards and debit cards, are known for dishonest and misleading business practices. In 20 years of doing business here at MPS, we have never had a complaint filed against us through the BBB. We hope that this speaks volumes about the integrity with which we carry out our work on daily basis.

In today’s business culture, it is very easy to mislead customers and to make additional profit beyond what you are entitled to for your efforts. The culture tells us that this is OK — until you get caught — and that cutting corners is the way to get ahead. That’s not how we do things here at MPS. We treat our customers in a fair and honest manner — the same way you treat your customers.

I believe that this approach creates long-term relationships with our customers, which is far more valuable to our company — and yours — than short term gain ever will be.

Hi, Tom Griffith here. I have been helping companies process credit and debit card transactions for a long time. I understand that, for the most part, companies in this business have a shady reputation. We’ve worked hard over the years to make Merchant Payment Services stand out from our competitors. In fact, we recently won the Better Business Bureau Integrity Award. That’s not something you see every day from a merchant account services company, is it?

Now, I also understand that once you have built a relationship with a company, it can be difficult to change, especially when that company is handling your debit and credit card transactions. After all, those transactions are what makes your business go. But what do you do when government regulations change, or you find out that you can save more money with another company?

You start shopping for a new partner, that’s what you do. If you are looking for a new partner to process your debit and credit card transactions, here are some things to take a look at.

Things to Consider when Switching Merchant Account Providers

1. Smooth Transition – When you change payment processing companies, there are many questions. How do you switch your ecommerce gateway? What do you do with your old credit card terminals? Our experienced team can lead you through this process and help you avoid common pitfalls that you might encounter with another company that has less experience or is less concerned with customer service.

2. Reliability – One of the most important things you need to consider when choosing a merchant account provider is reliability. Consistency is important to running a business. You don’t need your rates going up unexpectedly, and you need to be able to get in touch with customer service when your business is open (and sometimes even when it’s not). You don’t need a partner that back-bills you for services or enrolls you in programs that you don’t need or authorize. You won’t get any of that with Merchant Payment Services.

3. References – How do you know if someone is running a reliable merchant account business? References. Testimonials. We have a few testimonials on our website, and you can read them if you like, but we are more than happy to provide you with a more comprehensive list of references. You can go take a look at various websites that “compare” merchant services providers. There are literally hundreds of them. But for the most part, they don’t really compare anything. Merchants sign up and pay a fee to get listed on these websites, which are really lead-generating services for the merchants. We’ll give you real references, real clients that you can call.

4. Partnerships – It’s important to know who your merchant account provider is associated with. Are they members of the Better Business Bureau and their local chamber of commerce? These things don’t matter to everyone, but they do matter to some. You don’t need to investigate this on your own, you can just ask us. We’ll tell you who we are associated with and who we are registered with.

5. Long-Term Relationships – Everyone in this business will tell you that they provide great customer service. But that’s only true if they have a dedicated, knowledgeable support staff and account managers. At Merchant Payment Services, our account managers are open and honest and perform regular rate reviews to ensure that you are locked in to the best rates possible at any given time. One of the most important things you have to do when running a business is to keep your clients satisfied. After all, it’s a lot less expensive to keep a client than it is to find a new one. I guarantee you that we are interested in keeping our clients.

6. Rates – How do you know that you are getting the best rates possible? If you’ve looked around on the web, everyone promises the lowest rates, don’t they? And, of course, everyone says that they can get you lower rates too. In fact, so do we. But it’s what happens after you switch providers that really matters. We won’t raise your rates. This isn’t a bait-and-switch. We are honestly interested in developing a long-term relationship with merchants like you, providing you with stable, consistent payment processing services.

7. Integrity – Every day, with every client, I put my name on the line and the name of Merchant Payment Services. This means something to me and to our employees. How many other merchant account providers openly talk about honesty and integrity? A lot of them. But how many of them back it up? If they all did, you wouldn’t be looking for a new provider, or thinking about it right now, would you?

In today’s fast-paced world, many businesses operate pursuing short-term gain – not Merchant Payment Services. From its start, the company has focused on being a different kind of merchant service provider. Its team members want merchants to know the company is here for the long haul, restoring honesty and integrity back into its industry locally. The team’s serious about delivering extraordinary service and doing business with impeccable integrity to build customer confidence to the highest possible level.

Tom Griffith says, “At our core is the desire to do what is right for our customers and each other. Conducting business with honesty and integrity means the relationship we have with our customers goes far beyond the sale… We believe that taking the high moral ground of doing business with honesty and integrity is the right way to do business.”

Family…it’s another driving force at Merchant Payment Services. Team members take time to personally care about one another and their customers’ needs as they arise. Like family members, they want to see each other and customers succeed in everything they do.

The Merchant Payment Services team grasps doing business with integrity means caring about the customer, more than the almighty dollar, which in the end can result in customers spending more money. Plus, it helps grow the business. Much of the company’s business today comes from second and third generation referrals.
Merchant Payment Services Wins the BBB Eclipse Integrity Award!

And, it’s experienced some of the highest account retention in the industry.

“Givers Gain” is one of the company’s core principles. In 2011, Merchant Payment Services donated over 500 man hours and $10,000 to community organizations, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dayton, Dayton Public Schools, Job Seekers Program, Smile Train, The Cleft Student Outreach, Project Impact, Toys For Tots, Goodwill Easter Seals, the American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity.
